About the position

The Production Agronomist at Corteva Agriscience is responsible for managing hybrid seed production, providing training and education to seed field employees and growers, and ensuring quality standards in agronomy and safety. This role involves direct field contact, grower management, and coordination of production research programs, all aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Grower management and support including acreage planning and quality control.
  • Manage scouts and develop cost-effective, environmentally sound methods to enhance yields.
  • Coordinate production research programs at the location level, addressing specific biological needs.
  • Supervise field operations and prepare reports as assigned.
  • Stay knowledgeable about current agronomic practices and government agricultural programs.
  • Implement and maintain quality standards in seed production.
  • Perform administrative duties including proposals for the plant location business plan.
  • Monitor field expenditures as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the field operations manager to formulate seed plans and manage field crews.
  • Prioritize work activities to ensure quality results and meet deadlines.
  • Support and implement Digital Agronomy programs.
  • Participate in improvement programs related to safety, efficiency, and effectiveness in plant and field environments.
  • Promote a positive work attitude and cultivate harmonious relations among team members.
  • Manage Safety Programs as assigned to promote a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an ag-related area.
  • 3-5 years of experience working with seed growers and seed plant operations or equivalent education and experience.
  • Knowledge of production agriculture and production plant operations.
  • Familiarity with field equipment and supervisory/team leadership skills.
  • Training skills and priority management abilities.
  • Willingness to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License administered by the Iowa Department of Agriculture.
  • Good verbal communication skills and advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to work in various conditions (field, plant, warehouse) and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Possess a valid driver's license, may require Class D license.
  • Ability to plan ahead and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work in a team setting with diverse cultural backgrounds and languages.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
