About the position

Astec Industries is seeking a Production Control and Planning Manager to develop and manage a facility production plan that maximizes efficiency and optimizes resources while ensuring customer needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner. This role is pivotal in overseeing key supply chain performance indicators, particularly focusing on velocity and order-to-delivery metrics. The manager will gather and analyze forecast and constrained Sales and Operations Planning data to create a valid production plan, leading the facility's Sales Inventory and Operations Process. This includes reporting performance against forecasts, production, and inventory plans in both dollars and units. The Production Control and Planning Manager will serve as the primary resource for information related to facility cash flow and inventory turns goals, collaborating closely with the S&OP Process owner to address demand planning issues and coordinate efforts across supply chain and operations functions. A significant aspect of this role involves setting and managing shop priorities to achieve customer delivery and promise dates. The manager will prepare and effectively communicate the facility production schedule, working in collaboration with various functions, including facility leadership, marketing, product support, manufacturing, engineering, logistics, and external business partners. In addition to these responsibilities, the manager will lead efforts to develop accurate forecasts and economical inventory/customer satisfaction plans, utilizing information gathered from marketing and sales. The role requires the use of common processes to develop and distribute necessary measurements and reports to monitor progress towards goals, providing a feedback loop for decision-making regarding short-term scheduling. Compliance and quality assurance for the rough-cut capacity planning process will also fall under the manager's purview, ensuring that results align with facility objectives. The position demands strong partnership-building skills, as it involves navigating complex relationships and networks at all functional and organizational levels. The manager will operate under limited direction, engaging in conflict resolution and management between departments or individuals with conflicting objectives. Proactive and professional conflict resolution will be essential, utilizing governing committees, adherence to common processes, metrics alignment, and strong business case development. The role also supports data gathering for availability administration, demand management, and special order programs, while preparing scheduling proposals for unique situations such as strike hedge plans or plant shutdowns. To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a university degree in Supply Chain and/or Logistics Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of progressively complex supply chain experience. Advanced knowledge of material control, supply chain planning, logistics, purchasing, and inventory control is crucial, as is proficiency in Oracle/Epicor ERP systems. Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, organization, negotiation, conflict resolution, and communication skills are required, along with advanced analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel. The ability to work independently and manage multiple projects is essential, as is a self-starter mentality to identify problems and implement corrective actions. Supervisory experience of 5+ years is required, as the manager will oversee the Production Control Department, directly supervising two to six employees.
