About the position

The Production Engineer at Afton Chemical Corporation is responsible for identifying and implementing improvements in manufacturing processes to enhance capacity, reduce costs, and improve safety and quality within the global supply chain. This role involves troubleshooting existing processes, working collaboratively with operations teams, and utilizing process improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma to drive efficiency and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Track operating performance and product quality of production units.
  • Identify causes of departure from standard and initiate corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot existing processes and initiate corrective actions to improve on stream time and operating efficiency.
  • Identify and implement improvements to processes and procedures that will increase capacity, reduce production cost, improve safety and quality of chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Track and monitor all environmental constraints related to permitting, emissions, and discharges from the unit.
  • Provide technical coverage for plant trials and startups.
  • Write operating procedures and provide training for chemical operators.
  • Propose changes in programming logic that will lead to improved process safety, quality, or production efficiency.
  • Develop in depth expertise on process equipment used at the plants such as reactors, agitators, heat exchangers, pumps, and filters.
  • Write and obtain approvals for MCRs (Manufacturing Change Requests) and MOCs (Management of Change) in support of process improvements.
  • Lead or be a member of PPA (potential problem analysis), JSA (job safety analysis) and PHAs (process hazard analysis) teams.
  • Become a subject matter expert for the chemistry and processing unit.
  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances for modified processes.
  • Develop project scopes for capital projects.
  • Specify new process equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing processes and operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with environmental regulations and compliance in chemical manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of process safety management principles.
  • Familiarity with project management practices.
