About the position

The position is responsible for the management of all aspects of shop floor operations, overseeing the direct reporting of lead supervisors and/or supervisor subordinates across one or more departments. The manager will be accountable for multiple departments as assigned, ensuring operational excellence across all applicable shifts. The principal functional responsibilities include executing and being accountable for performance and goal attainment as defined by the Cabinetworks Group Operating System (COS). This role requires the development and management of a culture of discipline to consistently deliver superior safety, quality, delivery, cost, and operational performance through continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, the manager will participate in non-conforming product and process alerts, championing corrective and preventative actions aimed at mitigating the recurrence and/or magnitude of potential future failures. The role involves creating, managing, maintaining, and ensuring that operations are executed in compliance with established standard work instructions, training plans, layered process audits, and controlled documentation processes. The manager will also participate in the capital and expense planning and realization processes within their areas of responsibility. Leading, participating in, and executing continuous improvement activities, including value stream mapping events, is a critical aspect of this position. Furthermore, the manager will be responsible for managing, developing, and providing performance feedback to subordinates, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a culture of discipline to deliver superior safety, quality, delivery, cost, and operational performance.
  • Participate in non-conforming product and process alerts and champion corrective and preventative actions.
  • Create, manage, maintain, and ensure operations comply with established standard work instructions and training plans.
  • Participate in capital and expense planning and realization processes.
  • Lead and execute continuous improvement activities including value stream mapping events.
  • Manage, develop, and provide performance feedback to subordinates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field; or 5 years previous leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in lean tool knowledge and application.
  • Fundamental knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen activities, and Six Sigma processes.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership, including personnel and organization development.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within the department and across the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with external customers.
  • Ability to function effectively, flexibly, independently, and with initiative without daily interaction with management.
  • Demonstrated capability to resolve conflict over sensitive or complex issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt Certification or comparable problem-solving certification.
  • Familiarity with the cabinet industry and product.
  • Familiarity with Toyota Production System, Danaher Business Systems, or similar Operating Systems.
