About the position

Trident Seafoods is seeking a Production Manager for its Bellingham plant, a key role responsible for overseeing all production-related initiatives and issues to ensure year-round value-added production. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of leading successful teams. A focus on Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence is essential for ongoing success at Trident. The Production Manager will be expected to have seafood experience and a comprehensive understanding of HACCP, GFSI, and other safety and quality systems, which are critical to the position. In this role, the Production Manager will review production orders and schedules to ascertain product data, including types, quantities, and specifications of productions, as well as scheduled delivery dates. They will support the Safety Pillar to ensure the safety of associates and the continuous improvement of safety practices and procedures. The Production Manager will work closely with the Scheduler to coordinate operations, establish priorities, and prepare operational staffing schedules to ensure that production and quality meet specifications. The successful candidate will also review production and operating reports, utilizing root cause and data analysis to resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems, thereby minimizing costs and preventing operational delays. Collaboration with the Operational Excellence Manager will be crucial for creative problem-solving and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The Production Manager will supervise, train, and coach team members, supervisors, leads, and forepersons, while also developing and modifying training programs in support of Continuous Skills Development. Additionally, the Production Manager will partner with Human Resources on hiring, onboarding, evaluations, and corrective counseling. They will ensure that line operations meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) and that continuous improvement processes are foundational. The role also involves ensuring that products conform to specifications and meet all food safety and quality requirements, working closely with Food Safety Quality Assurance. The Production Manager will prioritize Good Manufacturing Practices and support the Seafood HACCP program, while managing the production budget in partnership with the Assistant Plant Manager and working with the maintenance team to achieve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) goals. This position is salaried exempt, with an annualized salary range of $85,000 to $105,000.

Responsibilities

  • Review production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of productions and scheduled delivery dates.
  • Support Safety Pillar to ensure safety of associates and continuous improvement of safety practices and procedures.
  • Work with Scheduler to coordinate operations, establish priorities and sequences for products.
  • Prepare operational staffing schedules and coordinate activities to ensure production and quality of products meet specifications.
  • Review production and operating reports and use root cause and data analysis to resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Partner with the Operational Excellence Manager for creative problem solving and fostering an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Supervise, train, and coach team members, supervisors, leads and forepersons.
  • Develop and modify training programs with support of Continuous Skills Development pillar.
  • Partner with Human Resources on hiring, onboarding, evaluations and corrective counseling.
  • Confirm line operations are implemented to meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) and that an ongoing process of continuous improvement (CI) is foundational.
  • Ensure products conform to specification and meet all food safety and quality (FSQA) requirements while working closely with Food Safety Quality Assurance.
  • Prioritize Good Manufacturing Practices with team members and support Seafood HACCP program.
  • Partner with Assistant Plant Manager to manage Production budget while maintaining production supply inventory.
  • Work with maintenance team to achieve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) goals.
  • Ensure all of the above is executed on any scheduled production shift by engaging and empowering shift supervisors.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a production supervisor.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer proficient including Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management.
  • 3 years of experience as a Production Manager in the food industry.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
  • Continuous Improvement Experience through Kaizens and/or TPM.
  • Certified Seafood HACCP.
