About the position

The Production Manager will oversee the production department at Holcim US, ensuring the efficient manufacturing of cement products while adhering to safety, environmental, and quality standards. This role is critical in managing the plant's production functions, which include supervising shift teams, raw materials teams, and service teams to ensure that the plant meets its production goals. The Production Manager will be responsible for directing the effective use of production equipment and personnel, providing leadership to department employees through coaching, support, and delegation as necessary. In addition to managing day-to-day operations, the Production Manager will anticipate future needs of the plant and contribute to three-year improvement plans. This includes budgeting for all plant volumes, overseeing the clinker production process, and managing refractory repairs for kilns and clinker coolers. The role also involves setting annual department and personal objectives, completing performance appraisals, and liaising with other departments to ensure the effectiveness of the production department. The Production Manager will safeguard company assets while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant management, with a focus on continuous improvement and production planning. They will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to health, safety, and environmental policies, promoting a culture of safety within the workplace. Successful candidates will also be required to adhere to safety protocols and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the plant's production functions, including shift teams, raw materials team, and service team.
  • Ensure that the plant produces the required quantity of quality products.
  • Direct the effective and efficient use of plant production equipment and personnel.
  • Provide leadership to department employees by directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating as necessary.
  • Oversee plant management in terms of anticipating future needs, including input into three-year improvement plans.
  • Budget for all plant volumes, including raw materials, fuels, intermediate products, and cement shipments.
  • Supervise the clinker production process.
  • Manage refractory repairs for kilns and clinker coolers, including budgeting, product specifications, and installation.
  • Direct the setting of annual department and personal objectives.
  • Complete performance appraisals.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Oversee the reporting of department effectiveness.
  • Safeguard assets while establishing environmental compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related engineering field, or 7 years of equivalent experience.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible, post-baccalaureate experience in a related engineering position within a cement plant.
  • 3 years conducting refractory selection and installation in a leadership capacity.
  • 1 year of experience with kiln and mill operations.
  • 3 years conducting cement process engineering activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles.
