About the position

The Converting Production Manager at Smurfit Westrock is responsible for overseeing manufacturing activities at the Winston-Salem Corrugated Container facility. This role involves managing direct reports, ensuring production objectives are met, and maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards. The manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, collaborate with the General Manager, and develop strong relationships within the organization to enhance production efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Manage direct reports and coordinate manufacturing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and monitor control procedures.
  • Revise production schedules and priorities as needed.
  • Review and analyze production reports to determine causes of nonconformity.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to develop operating methods and procedures.
  • Develop strong relationships with key members of the organization to prevent production delays.
  • Ensure all company standards and commitments are followed within the plant.
  • Partner with the Plant Safety Manager to enforce the safety program.
  • Manage workforce planning to maintain productivity activities.
  • Maintain working relationship with the union according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Identify training and development opportunities for Production Supervisors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D - Required
  • 5+ years of converting supervisory experience in a corrugated/converting packaging facility - Required
  • Knowledge of machinery and troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Proven experience with lean and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all employees and customers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree or higher in Business or Applied Science - Preferred
  • Ability to learn proprietary software programs for the Corrugated Manufacturing systems.
