About the position

The Production Manager for Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's upcoming production of Charles Dickens' ‘A Christmas Carol’ will oversee all aspects of production management, ensuring the successful execution of the show at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theater. This role involves significant collaboration with the General Manager and Artistic Director, as well as supervising the production team during both pre-production and on-site phases. The position is primarily remote during pre-production but requires on-site presence during critical production periods.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all production/technical staff and manage load-in/out and tech rehearsals.
  • Schedule and run production meetings to facilitate communication.
  • Oversee scene shop and costume shop, tracking progress and communicating with designers and staff.
  • Coordinate production support for accessibility programs such as open captioning and ASL interpretation.
  • Be present on-site for key rehearsals, load-ins, tech rehearsals, and performances to supervise work and support the crew.
  • Lead pre and post-tech rehearsal meetings with stage management and the creative team.
  • Send detailed reports to all members of the creative team and production crew.
  • Maintain morale and uphold company values by offering support and encouragement to all involved.
  • Recruit and hire department heads and production staff, including overhire for load-in/out.
  • Approve and submit timesheets for payment.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive production calendar.
  • Coordinate with venue staff on load-in/out and tech schedules while adhering to regulations.
  • Negotiate and contract vendors for production elements.
  • Coordinate all permitting and licensing needs with the General Manager and venue staff.
  • Maintain the production budget and ensure compliance with reimbursement policies.
  • Supply a Production Management Book at the end of the season with all necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience in theatrical production management, event management, or company management.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of live theatre production.
  • Bachelor's degree in theatre or equivalent life experience preferred.
  • 5-10 years experience in live theatre (professional, academic, community, educational) is ideal.
  • Ability to carry loads of up to 50 pounds while moving up and down stairs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in stage management, general management, or production work for film/tv/music.
