About the position

The Production Manager at Wis-Pak, Inc. plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing production operations under the guidance of the Facility Manager. This position is responsible for ensuring that production levels are maximized while maintaining the lowest possible costs, all while adhering to the company's quality standards and meeting the delivery requirements of shareholders and customers. The Production Manager will coordinate various aspects of production, including scheduling, staffing, training, and employee relations, to ensure smooth operations and optimal productivity. In this role, the Production Manager will maintain close surveillance over plant operations through the analysis of production reports, participation in staff meetings, and direct observation. This oversight is essential for ensuring the integration of workflow, timely production schedules, and the effective utilization of personnel, equipment, and facilities. The Production Manager will also be responsible for forecasting future production needs, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) related to output, cost, quality, efficiencies, and safety, and managing raw material inventory levels. Additionally, the Production Manager will implement sanitation and recycling activities, assist in developing performance and quality criteria, and act as a technical resource for resolving production-related inquiries. The role requires identifying process improvements to enhance productivity and recommending procedures, equipment, and techniques to upgrade plant operations. Budget preparation and cost estimation are also key responsibilities, along with serving as a liaison between production personnel and management to improve productivity and quality. The Production Manager will supervise and evaluate the performance of production staff, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and company policies. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise the production function.
  • Maintain close surveillance over plant operations through production reports, staff meetings, observation and personal contact.
  • Coordinate and expedite plant activities and functions of scheduling, production, staffing, training, and employee relations.
  • Understand current conditions and trends to forecast future production needs, including staffing, raw materials, and equipment needs.
  • Monitor KPIs related to output, cost, quality, efficiencies and safety.
  • Monitor raw material inventory levels.
  • Plan and implement sanitation and recycling activities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of performance and quality criteria and measurements.
  • Act as technical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems regarding production.
  • Identify process improvements to optimize productivity.
  • Research and recommend various procedures, equipment, and techniques to maintain and upgrade plant operations.
  • Estimate costs and prepare budgets.
  • Serve as liaison with other managers to formulate objectives and understand requirements to improve productivity, methods, processes and quality.
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of production personnel.
  • Serve as liaison between the production personnel and staff on matters of communication, decisions, and policies.
  • Interpret and administer policies relative to company work rules and regulations.
  • Research, review and recommend vendors for suppliers to the company.
  • Complete, organize and maintain all required paperwork, records, documentation, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, housekeeping, HACCP, GMP, work rules and sanitation regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with courses in production and operations management or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible related experience, or nine to eleven years of progressively responsible related experience without a degree.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop orders, production requirements, financial reports, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors, management, customers, and other employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard business machines and small hand and power tools.
