About the position

The Production Manager at Café Valley in Marion, IN, is primarily responsible for overseeing all business facets of the Batter or Dough Line. This role requires a strategic leader who can plan, direct, and coordinate work activities and resources across various teams and departments to ensure the manufacturing of products meets cost, quality, and quantity specifications. The Production Manager will be instrumental in managing production schedules, inventory, quality systems, maintenance needs, staffing requirements, and cost controls. In this position, the Production Manager will ensure that the Redzone system is utilized effectively and that quality goals and criteria are consistently met. The role involves directing or coordinating people scheduling and production operations activities, as well as leading Lean events such as Kaizens, Gembas, and Optimizations to focus improvement efforts within the department. The Production Manager will also review operations and collaborate with technical or administrative staff to resolve any production or processing issues that may arise. Additionally, the Production Manager will be responsible for hiring, training, evaluating, or discharging staff and resolving personnel issues as necessary. They will prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records, ensuring the integrity of corporate programs such as the Baker Buddy program, Life-cycle program, and training Technician program. Budget development and expenditure approval for supplies, materials, or human resources will also fall under their purview, ensuring that all resources are used efficiently to meet production targets. The role may also involve coordinating or recommending procedures for facility or equipment maintenance or modification, including machine replacements. Finally, the Production Manager will perform all other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the production unit.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Production units including people and production schedules, inventory, quality systems, maintenance needs, staffing requirements, work procedures, and cost controls.
  • Ensure proper use of Redzone and that quality goals and criteria are consistently met.
  • Direct or coordinate people scheduling and production operations activities.
  • Lead Lean events such as Kaizens, Gembas, and Optimizations to focus improvement efforts.
  • Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, or discharge staff or resolve personnel issues.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports or personnel records.
  • Ensure the integrity of corporate programs like the Baker Buddy program, Life-cycle program, and training Technician program.
  • Develop budgets or approve expenditures for supplies, materials, or human resources, ensuring efficient use of materials, labor, or equipment to meet production targets.
  • Coordinate or recommend procedures for facility or equipment maintenance or modification, including machine replacements.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in food manufacturing/processing/bakery
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Lean certifications
  • General knowledge of personnel administration principles and practices
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, cost management, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
