About the position

The Production Manager at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Production Department, ensuring high-quality production and technical standards while providing excellent customer service. This role involves managing day-to-day operations, coordinating events, and leading a team to deliver successful performances and events.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Production Department, including staff and technical crews.
  • Exercise discretion in advancing performances, identifying technical needs, and creating crew schedules.
  • Organize and execute all aspects of assigned events, including logistics and budget tracking.
  • Perform production and stage manager roles for shows and events.
  • Assist in setting up dressing rooms and rehearsal spaces as required.
  • Maintain and distribute all Production Department invoices and correspondence.
  • Schedule union and non-union stage crews according to show needs and budget.
  • Assist in completing union stagehand payroll and adhere to union contract rules.
  • Participate in required meetings and trainings, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of live theater stage management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in General/Theater Production preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of production areas in theater and concert industry.
  • Practical knowledge of event management and scheduling software.
  • At least 2 years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Skilled in Windows-based programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing events in theaters of 250 to 2,700 seats.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a polite attitude.
  • Creativity and initiative in handling customer interactions.
