The Production Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing location or area, focusing on driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. This role involves providing leadership to both supervision and employees, ensuring they have the necessary tools to perform their jobs safely and efficiently. The Production Manager actively participates in the site's safety and quality management programs and practices Lean Manufacturing methodologies, including Six Sigma, FMEA, and 8D Problem Analysis. In this position, the Production Manager prepares and reviews all production, safety, and quality reports, developing action plans with team members as needed for problem resolution. They are tasked with establishing and implementing improvements aimed at cost reduction, quality assurance, and production efficiency. The role also includes directing and assisting with developmental or experimental activities, working closely with employees to gather input for resolving production issues and enhancing efficiencies through problem-solving tools and skills. The Production Manager reviews Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to ensure the facility is on track to meet overall departmental objectives. They meet with Planning and Operations team members to discuss production schedules and any necessary changes. Additionally, the Production Manager collaborates with supervision to ensure that vacancies are covered during vacations or absences, ensuring that production schedule requirements are met. This role requires interfacing with customers and suppliers as necessary, implementing proactive and corrective maintenance practices for all production equipment, and developing an effective preventative maintenance program. The Production Manager ensures that plants meet cycle time requirements to achieve throughput objectives and that employees are properly trained in all aspects of their jobs, including safety, quality, and production. They are responsible for making decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules to attain operational objectives, and they may perform other duties as assigned.
