About the position

The Production Manager position at NBC Sports, part of Comcast, is a pivotal role that reports directly to the Director of BIG 10 Operations. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing production projects across various settings, including on-site events, home base operations, and studio environments. The Production Manager serves as a crucial communication link between Remote Operations Management and the production teams, ensuring that all aspects of production are coordinated effectively. This includes liaising with arena, stadium, and tournament personnel to manage logistics such as mobile unit schedules, generator needs, equipment levels, internet requirements, and security arrangements. In addition to logistical coordination, the Production Manager is tasked with hiring and managing payroll for support crews, ensuring that all production costs are accounted for and that bills are paid in a timely manner. The role also involves executing and publishing the show's Production Memo, which outlines all logistical details for the production. When working in the studio, the Production Manager is responsible for managing crew schedules and supporting the needs of production and talent, collaborating closely with studio Technical Managers. The Production Manager will primarily focus on the Big Ten but will also engage with other NBC Sports properties as needed. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to handle multiple production projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines and changing circumstances. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the production process in sports television and be adept at using Microsoft Office Suite and other production-related tools.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an effective communication conduit between Remote Operations Management and the Production teams.
  • Coordinate with arena/stadium/tournament personnel regarding mobile unit arrival and schedule.
  • Manage logistics such as generator needs, equipment levels, internet needs, credentials, compound set-up, security, catering, transportation, and hotel adjustments.
  • Report crew logs and hire support crews, partnering with payroll for payments.
  • Work closely with Production and Talent, as well as the show's Technical Manager and various show vendors.
  • Manage the show's budget in coordination with the Producer and Finance, ensuring all costs are accounted for and bills are paid.
  • Execute and publish the show's Production Memo, detailing logistics.
  • Book traveling crews' flights, rental cars, and hotel reservations.
  • Manage studio shows' crew schedules and support Production and Talent needs in the studio.
  • Identify, onboard, and evaluate production support positions such as PAs, runners, and stage managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience working on production or related projects.
  • Proven understanding of the production process involved in Sports Television.
  • Proven competency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of equipment and the equipment process for various production projects.
  • Willingness to learn internal systems and work nights and weekends.
