About the position

The Overnight Production Manager at Chelten House Products, Inc. plays a crucial role in overseeing the production operations during the night shift, ensuring that all processes align with safety, quality, and efficiency standards. This position requires a proactive approach to managing the transition between the end of production and the start of the next day’s operations. The manager will collaborate with various departments, including Sanitation, Quality/Food Safety, Maintenance, and Warehouse, to make critical decisions that affect the overall production flow. The role emphasizes hands-on management, where the manager will directly engage in operational tasks to ensure compliance with established procedures and identify areas for improvement. In this position, the Overnight Production Manager is responsible for upholding employee safety and food safety standards by rigorously enforcing compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The manager will also be tasked with identifying gaps in safety, quality, and performance, providing sustainable solutions, and implementing corrective actions based on data-driven decisions. A continuous improvement mindset is essential, as the manager will perform audits and drive initiatives that enhance operational efficiency. Strong communication skills are vital for this role, as the manager will need to direct the flow of activities that bridge the gap between the end of production and the resumption of operations the following day. Leadership is a key component, as the manager will coach and direct both hourly and supervisory team members to prioritize critical business initiatives and improve plant performance. The manager will also be expected to commit to quarterly deliverables that align with overall plant initiatives, focusing on performance metrics such as Standard Case Attainment and Plant Yields, while also working to reduce costs per case. Building a strong partnership with the day shift management team is essential to ensure continuity and alignment between shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold employee safety, food safety, and product quality standards on the overnight shift.
  • Identify safety, quality, and performance gaps within the operation and provide sustainable solutions.
  • Maintain a Continuous Improvement mindset to drive improvements and perform audits as directed.
  • Directly involve in various functional tasks of the overnight operation to audit for process compliance.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills to direct flow of activities between production and sanitation teams.
  • Lead, coach, and direct hourly and supervisor team members to prioritize business-critical initiatives.
  • Commit to quarterly deliverables in alignment with overall plant initiatives to improve performance metrics.
  • Build strong partnerships with day shift management to ensure business continuity.

Requirements

  • Five years or more of experience in a food manufacturing environment at a Supervisory level or greater.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar discipline preferred.
  • Union workforce experience preferred.
  • GMP environment experience is required; food production experience is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of business metrics and key performance drivers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and various database applications, especially Excel.
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Writing skills including authoring SOP/JSA/OPL's.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. repeatedly and 50 lbs. periodically.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to handle exposure to various allergens.
