About the position

The Production Manager at Fresh & Ready Foods is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all production operations to ensure they are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety regulations. This position requires a strong focus on maintaining a sanitary environment while managing the daily activities of the assigned department. The Production Manager will serve as the primary management contact for various internal departments, including Sales & Marketing, Orders, Finance & Accounting, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and Maintenance. This role is essential in coordinating efforts across these departments to achieve revenue goals and ensure smooth operations. In addition to managing production schedules and employee assignments, the Production Manager will lead training sessions for staff, ensuring that all team members are well-versed in safety procedures and food safety protocols, including HACCP and SQF policies. Daily communication with team members through 'Huddle' meetings is crucial for maintaining alignment and addressing any operational challenges. The Production Manager will also be responsible for utilizing a Timekeeping System to accurately document hours worked, including overtime, vacation, and absences. The role requires a commitment to Lean Manufacturing principles, striving to meet or exceed company labor and material KPIs. The Production Manager must be available to lead operations during weekends and holidays as needed, acting as a backup to the Plant Manager when required. This position also involves conducting performance reviews, managing compliance with company policies and regulations, and facilitating effective information sharing across production teams to meet customer deadlines. Additionally, the Production Manager will play a key role in recruiting new hires and ensuring they receive proper orientation and training.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all daily activities of assigned department.
  • Serve as management point of contact with internal personnel in Sales & Marketing, Orders, Finance & Accounting, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, and Maintenance Departments.
  • Evaluate multiple options to make sound decisions and achieve revenue goals in coordination with the department director.
  • Responsible for employee and production scheduling of assigned departments.
  • Ensure timely completion of daily production paperwork.
  • Actively participate and lead employee training sessions.
  • Monitor daily staff availability and work shift schedules.
  • Communicate daily to assigned team members through daily 'Huddle' meetings.
  • Lead by example by following safety procedures and training employees to do the same.
  • Follow all food safety procedures, including HACCP & SQF policies, and teach the team to do the same.
  • Utilize a Timekeeping System to maintain a weekly record of hours worked and ensure accurate documentation of hours worked, vacation, personal hours, absences, etc.
  • Employ Lean Manufacturing principles to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Strive to achieve or exceed company Labor and Material KPIs.
  • Be available to lead assigned area of responsibility on weekends and holidays as the business dictates.
  • Act as Backup to Plant Manager as needed.
  • Manage staff to ensure compliance with all Company procedures and policies as well as all state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee preparation of performance reviews including disciplinary process when necessary.
  • Coordinate and manage production tasks to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction for fulfillment of orders.
  • Lead the deployment and implementation of continuous improvement programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce.
  • Facilitate effective information sharing across production teams, planning maintenance, and warehouse and customer service to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Manage and direct maintenance of load capacity equipment.
  • Coordinate directly with internal employees and meet expectations against operational capabilities.
  • Problem-solve and develop corrective actions to enhance operational performance.
  • Conduct recruiting of new hires to determine personnel needs, including department orientation, job training, and development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field
  • USDA Food Industry Experience
  • HACCP & SQF Experience
