About the position

William & Mary's Department of Theatre & Performance is seeking a full-time Production Manager to oversee theatre and dance productions. This role is pivotal in managing the general operations of productions, which includes overseeing the production budget, establishing deadlines, and monitoring the progress of production processes. The Production Manager will be responsible for resolving technical and logistical production issues, securing performance rights, and facilitating guest artist engagements. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate rehearsal and performance spaces for the program and serve as a liaison for all scheduling matters related to productions and facilities. The position also involves supervising the work of full-time staff to ensure the smooth execution of productions. The Production Manager will work under the general direction of the Department Chair and will play a crucial role in the integration of scholarly and artistic work within the department. The Department of Theatre and Performance is committed to providing cultural resources for university and community audiences, and the Production Manager will contribute to this mission by ensuring that productions are executed effectively and efficiently. This position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of educational theatre, production management, and technical theatre, along with demonstrated skills in budgeting and conflict resolution. The role demands effective communication with a diverse population, including faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. The Production Manager will also need to be flexible in their work schedule to accommodate the department's production calendar, which may include working evenings and weekends as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee theatre and dance productions including general operations and production budget management.
  • Establish deadlines and monitor progress of production processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Theatre from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of educational theatre, production management, and technical theatre.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of theatre equipment.
  • Demonstrated skills in budgeting, organization, attention to detail, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience in a professional stage and production management environment.
  • Ability to manage all aspects of stage productions and schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Fine Arts from an accredited institution or equivalent professional experience.
  • Prior experience as a theatrical Production Manager.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art production equipment and technology (lighting, sound, construction).
  • Experience with AutoCad and Vectorworks.
