About the position

Custom Mold & Design is seeking a Production Manager for the 1st shift to oversee our manufacturing facility in Forest Lake, MN. This position is crucial for planning, directing, and coordinating manufacturing and facilities activities as directed by the Director of Operations. As a Production Manager, you will lead a team of toolmakers, polishers, and shipping personnel, ensuring that projects are completed to both quality and time requirements. You will be responsible for developing, evaluating, and improving mold building and manufacturing process techniques, while also analyzing workforce utilization, space requirements, and resource capacity to maximize efficiency. Maintaining a safe working environment is paramount, and you will enforce safety guidelines and regulations, investigate incidents, and implement preventive measures. Additionally, you will provide coaching and training to team members, fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate manufacturing and facilities activities as directed.
  • Project a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve mold building and manufacturing process techniques.
  • Lead a team of toolmakers to complete projects to both quality and time requirements.
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, resource capacity (man & machine), workflow, and designs for maximum efficiency.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Investigate and report any accidents or incidents and implement preventive measures.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching and training to team members to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Promote an environment where apprentices can grow and advance.
  • Assist in the estimating process when applicable.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience in leading technical personnel within a tooling shop or machining environment OR 7-10 years progressive job experience and/or training within a tooling shop or machining environment preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills; effective business correspondence and reporting; working knowledge of Microsoft Office and business operating systems.
  • CAD software experience.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, attention to detail and thorough desire for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact across all levels of the organization, while accomplishing organizational goals.
  • Knowledge of engineering or technical operations including experience in product/engineering management.
  • Strong knowledge of blueprint reading and familiarity with inspection equipment.
  • Understanding of component and/or mold manufacturing and ability to make decisions on in-process tolerancing.
  • Ability to perform daily tasks in a safe manner.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and work effectively with customers, suppliers, and other departments.
  • Demonstrated well-developed leadership skills and able to develop, foster, and maintain a team-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and process management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
