About the position

As a Production Manager at Builders FirstSource, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the production lines of our facility, ensuring that operations are conducted in the most timely, productive, and cost-effective manner. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will manage various production lines, including trusses, millwork, insulation, doors, and windows. Your leadership will be essential in maintaining the overall production and physical conditions of the facility and its equipment. You will collaborate closely with lead managers across departments, providing training and development to personnel involved in production functions. Your responsibilities will include reviewing production orders and schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications, which will help you plan department operations effectively. You will establish priorities and sequences for manufacturing products, prepare operational schedules, and coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure that production and quality meet specifications. Additionally, you will be responsible for reviewing production and operating reports, resolving operational and manufacturing issues, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies. In this role, you will also be tasked with inspecting machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance and utilization. You will develop or revise standard operational practices and observe workers to ensure compliance with these standards. Addressing worker grievances and directing the implementation of safe operating practices will also be part of your duties. Your active participation in professional trade groups and customer appreciation events will further enhance your role within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage production lines in a timely, productive, and cost-effective manner.
  • Oversee the overall production and physical conditions of the facility and equipment.
  • Collaborate with lead managers to train and develop production personnel.
  • Review production orders and schedules to plan department operations.
  • Establish priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Prepare operational schedules and coordinate manufacturing activities.
  • Review production and operating reports to resolve operational issues.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for optimal performance.
  • Develop and revise standard operational practices and ensure compliance.
  • Address worker grievances and implement safe operating practices.
  • Compile, store, and retrieve production data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university.
  • 4-5 years of directly related experience in the lumber or building materials industry.
  • Knowledge/experience in building materials, procurement, and inventory management.
  • Strong customer service experience and good organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to present information effectively to management and public groups.
  • Mathematical skills to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Reasoning ability to define problems and develop solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in managing multiple assignments in all phases of the business.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and OSHA compliance.
