About the position

The position involves developing and implementing effective production and department planning, policies, and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and alignment with company objectives. The role requires close coordination with Plant Management to establish goals and objectives that support the overall strategic direction of the company. The individual will participate in the development and implementation of departmental procedures, ensuring they are in line with companywide strategies. A deep understanding of all positions on the production floor is essential, as is the ability to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures. In addition to planning and policy implementation, the role assumes responsibility for the efficient, timely, and accurate completion of production functions. This includes identifying and resolving problems quickly and effectively, completing related reports and records, and ensuring that production functions adhere to established production, safety, and quality standards. The individual will track operational output metrics such as efficiency, yield loss, product quality, inventory accuracy, and transactional accuracy, proactively anticipating and correcting trends that could jeopardize financial targets. Flexibility in production plans on a shift-by-shift basis is also required to prevent service issues and operational inefficiencies. Supervisory responsibilities include effectively managing assigned personnel to ensure optimal performance. This involves training and advising employees on daily needs and production methods, managing personnel schedules, and assessing staffing needs. The individual will provide leadership through goal setting, delegation, and communication, and will assist with personnel decisions such as performance appraisals, hiring, terminations, wage decisions, and promotions. A culture of respect and motivation is emphasized, with a focus on positively challenging personnel to improve performance. Maintaining effective communication and coordination with company personnel and management is crucial. The individual will communicate cross-functionally to address operational issues and drive business changes while minimizing impacts on personnel. An open dialogue with the assigned team and Plant Manager is essential for fostering collaboration and problem-solving. Compliance is a key aspect of the role, ensuring that the team adheres to all safety policies and procedures, maintains product quality and sanitation standards, and complies with company policies, contracts, and procedures. The individual may also assume other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the production team.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements effective production, department planning, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates with Plant Management to develop goals and objectives.
  • Participates in developing and implementing department procedures and ensures that they support Companywide strategic objectives.
  • Exhibits expert knowledge for all positions on production floor.
  • Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Assumes responsibility for the efficient, timely, and accurate completion of Production functions.
  • Identifies problems and resolves them quickly and effectively.
  • Completes related reports and records as assigned.
  • Ensures that production functions are completed in accordance with established production, safety, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field or 3 - 5 years of operational management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Safety, SQF, GMP, and HACCP training/certifications.
  • Previous experience understanding of budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of financial and accounting practices.
  • Ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends.
  • Experience using continuous improvement tools to drive improvement.
  • Experience enforcing safety rules and policies.
  • Ability to lead a team-based approach to decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
