About the position

Ascentec Engineering is seeking a dedicated and experienced Production Manager for our Dallas, Oregon location. The Production Manager will play a crucial role in leading, directing, and coordinating the daily functions of the Machining, MRB Engineering, Finishing, and Assembly departments. This position requires a proactive approach to ensure that all manufacturing needs are met efficiently and effectively. The Production Manager will work cross-functionally with various departments, including quality, materials, packaging & shipping, engineering, and human resources, to facilitate smooth operations and meet production goals. In this role, the Production Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of machining, assembly, and finishing processes. This includes making personnel decisions regarding hiring, compensation, promotions, discipline, and termination of operational support staff in accordance with company policies. The manager will also monitor and manage operational costs, ensuring that departmental KPIs such as productivity, efficiency, labor hours, booked hours, time variance reports, equipment utilization rates, on-time delivery (OTD), and rework/scrap rates are measured and monitored effectively. The Production Manager will set priorities for their teams, evaluate both equipment and human capital capacity, and communicate with sales and management when expectations are not met. Continuous improvement and problem-solving will be key aspects of this role, as the manager will investigate non-conformances, determine root causes, and lead corrective actions. Mentoring, coaching, and training team members on departmental guidelines and procedures will also be essential responsibilities. The manager will lead scheduled team meetings, advance the Quality Management System (QMS) through routine audits, and participate in the development and execution of corrective and preventative actions. Additionally, the Production Manager will champion lean manufacturing events and process improvements, monitor departmental compliance with company objectives, and facilitate training for CNC machinists, finishing techs, and assemblers. The manager will be responsible for scheduling and coordinating customer order priorities, managing staff performance, and ensuring adherence to attendance and company policies. Creating a department culture that supports the principles of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth will be a fundamental aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day machining, assembly, and finishing operations.
  • Make personnel decisions regarding hiring, compensation, promotions, discipline, and termination of operational support staff.
  • Monitor and manage operational costs.
  • Measure and monitor departmental KPIs including productivity, efficiency, labor hours, booked hours, time variance reports, equipment utilization rates, OTD, and rework/scrap rates.
  • Set priorities for teams and evaluate capacity for both equipment and human capital.
  • Communicate with sales and management when expectations are not met.
  • Investigate non-conformances and determine root causes, leading corrective actions.
  • Mentor, coach, and train team members on department guidelines and procedures.
  • Lead scheduled team meetings and advance the Quality Management System (QMS) through routine audits.
  • Participate in and lead the development, execution, and closure of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Champion lean manufacturing events and process improvements such as Kaizen, GEMBA walks, and 5S events.
  • Monitor departmental compliance with company objectives, goals, and policies.
  • Facilitate training and allocate resources for the training of CNC machinists, finishing techs, and assemblers.
  • Schedule and coordinate customer order priorities.
  • Manage staff performance through the performance management process, including confirming job responsibilities and establishing goals.
  • Resolve day-to-day issues and monitor performance related to staffing, scheduling, quality, tooling, and maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to attendance, overtime, and company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor work in progress and inspect final products for quality.
  • Authorize and allocate staffing for production and provide mentoring to staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years of progressively complex technical experience in production and project management.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and experience with machining metals (stainless steel, titanium, aluminum) and plastics.
  • Knowledgeable of CNC machine tools, including CNC Horizontal and Vertical Mills, 5-Axis, Lathes, and EDM.
  • Experience in implementing Lean Manufacturing Processes and Toyota Production System methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Process development/engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with Six Sigma and reduction of waste methodologies (Muda, Muri, Mura).
  • Passion for mentoring and training team members.
