About the position

The Production Manager (PM) at Veolia North America plays a crucial role in overseeing the efficiency of production processes while ensuring a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance. The PM will be responsible for monitoring waste feeds to the incinerator, identifying any problematic feeds, and collaborating with various departments to implement corrective actions. This may involve suspending feeds, adjusting K-mixes, or optimizing the burning of waste fed from different ports. The PM will also work closely with the Container Management Supervisor to expedite the drum feed plan and prioritize drum unloading based on the feed plan. In addition to managing day-to-day operations, the Production Manager will troubleshoot issues related to waste feed and mechanical problems within the incinerator unit, deep well, and water treatment systems. The PM will assist in writing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and will be involved in planning and executing special projects, including the startup of newly installed equipment and piping. The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining safe working conditions, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and managing the training of direct reports to uphold safety standards. The PM will track plant activities and trends to enhance efficiency and reduce costs, while also overseeing hazardous waste reporting requirements and collaborating with the EHS Manager to ensure compliance with OSHA, MOSH, EPA, and MDE regulations. This position requires strong leadership skills, as the PM will make recommendations regarding hiring and terminations, prepare performance appraisals, and provide input on departmental training programs. Overall, the Production Manager is integral to the operational success and safety of the facility, ensuring that all processes align with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor unit production efficiency and interact with support departments to optimize production.
  • Identify problem waste feeds to the incinerator and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with the Container Management Supervisor to expedite the drum feed plan.
  • Review available combustible direct charges to choose the feed order of the drums.
  • Troubleshoot problems related to waste feed or mechanical issues within the incinerator unit.
  • Assist in writing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Plan and execute special projects, including the startup of newly installed equipment.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Supervise day-to-day operations of various teams including Container Storage Building and Compliance team.
  • Track plant activities and trends to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Assess hazardous waste profiles and determine correct handling methods.
  • Oversee hazardous waste reporting requirements and work with waste blending for disposal procedures.
  • Collaborate with EHS Manager to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Correspond with contractors, government agencies, and vendors regarding operations.
  • Make recommendations to upper management concerning hiring and terminations.
  • Prepare and administer department budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related science.
  • Five years of experience in a related position with knowledge of hazardous waste management methods and practices.
  • Regulatory knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, and Title V - NESHAPS.
  • Ability to diagnose process problems and troubleshoot equipment effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and take on new responsibilities.
  • Ability to compose and write technical reports and recommendations.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
