About the position

The Production Manager at BrightFarms is responsible for overseeing the operations of a greenhouse facility, ensuring efficient production processes while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. This role involves managing the workforce, optimizing production yields, and implementing lean practices to improve operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainable agriculture and committed to enhancing the environmental impact of the food supply chain.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24-7 support in a production facility and maintain a major presence on the floor.
  • Manage greenhouse workforce, including hiring, firing, labor planning, and reporting across all departments.
  • Accountable for converting plant yield into revenue and managing operating expenses.
  • Oversee inventory control and manage inbound and outbound shipments of production supplies.
  • Manage labor expenses, energy utilization, and lead efforts to improve system efficiency through lean practices.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe greenhouse facility while adhering to SQF requirements.
  • Train greenhouse employees on food safety best practices and maintain food safety logs.
  • Coordinate supplies with vendors and partners for deliveries and orders.
  • Track all incoming, outgoing, and consumption of inventory for work in process and packaging materials.
  • Assist the Head Grower in all aspects of greenhouse management.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in a production environment or related work experience.
  • Experience working with governmental agencies and/or municipal utilities.
  • Ability to create standard operating procedures and safety rules.
  • Familiarity with food safety and inspection reports.
  • Strong multitasking skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain composure during times of disorder and communicate respectfully.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual: English and Spanish
  • Experience in Food Safety and Sanitation
  • 2-4 years of college education
  • Experience in the food or agriculture industry.
