About the position

The Service Operations Support Manager in Training at CarMax is responsible for managing and leading associates to achieve production targets while maintaining inventory levels and providing exceptional customer service. This role involves conducting both informal and formal observations of associates, communicating expectations, and providing constructive feedback. The manager will also participate in the screening, hiring, and development of associates, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to meet performance goals. Continuous improvement efforts are a key focus, and the manager will assist in the development and execution of production plans to optimize operations. In addition to managing associates, the Service Operations Support Manager will ensure proper inventory levels of all materials and equipment, including personal protective equipment, tools, and chemicals, utilizing the supply ordering system. The role requires collaboration with sales, business office, and purchasing teams to provide necessary support. Compliance with risk management protocols is essential, including adherence to loss prevention, facility maintenance, and environmental health and safety guidelines. The manager will also handle customer concerns efficiently and courteously, ensuring a positive experience for all customers. This position is dynamic and may involve a variety of work schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The working environment is a combination of indoor and outdoor settings, which may include exposure to noisy situations and inclement weather. The manager must be prepared to walk or stand for extended periods and may occasionally travel to other work locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead associates to achieve production targets.
  • Maintain and control inventory levels.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.

  • Participate in the screening/hiring and development of associates.
  • Maintain key performance measures.
  • Learn, participate, and execute continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist with the development and execution of production plans.
  • Ensure proper inventory levels of all materials and equipment using the supply ordering system.
  • Provide support to sales, business office, and purchasing teams when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of risk management.
  • Handle customer concerns in a quick, efficient, and friendly manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years management experience in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage a team to achieve production goals.
  • Proficient in reading, interpreting, and transcribing data to maintain accurate records.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for dealing with customers and associates, both in person and over the phone.
  • Above average computer skills with a variety of common and proprietary software.
