About the position

The Production Manager at SCAD will oversee the production of various events including television, theater, stage, film, and live performances. This role involves collaborating with technical and creative teams to ensure projects are executed according to detailed management plans while adhering to safety and fiscal guidelines. The Production Manager will also mentor students and provide them with learning opportunities in production management and technical theater.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the production of television, theater, stage, film, and live events in collaboration with the technical director and production coordinator.
  • Create detailed production schedules by consulting with various stakeholders including the dean and creative director.
  • Ensure fiscal control and adherence to SCAD policies by supervising productions closely.
  • Maintain production schedules that meet all technical requirements safely and efficiently.
  • Schedule, organize, and lead meetings regarding production and advertise these productions.
  • Identify and invite necessary stakeholders to production meetings.
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise during projects in collaboration with the creative team and director.
  • Review production plans to ensure they are developed and approved on schedule.
  • Vet the budget, labor, feasibility, and safety designs for productions.
  • Translate designer drawings into CAD working drawings for construction.
  • Collaborate with the technical director and shop manager to ensure compliance with OSHA and SCAD safety policies.
  • Ensure a safe working environment in shops, studios, and theaters for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Mentor students through the design process for assigned projects, including aspects of lighting design and control.
  • Advise students on industry standards and best practices regarding projection budgets and money management.
  • Provide students with workshops and extended learning opportunities on stage management and production management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in production management, stage management, technical theater, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience in film, television, themed entertainment, or theater.
  • Knowledge of set production protocols, production tools, machinery, and techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and CAD software including AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, QLab, and Vectorworks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with digital rendering software including V-Ray and/or KeyShot.
