About the position

The Production Manager position is a pivotal role within a metal fabrication shop located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This role is designed for a self-starter who is eager to learn and grow within a dynamic company. The Production Manager will be responsible for overseeing the production process, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. This includes developing and leading shop supervisors through active coaching, establishing production targets, and facilitating communication among team members to create a shared vision. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in precision machining and experience in leading teams, as well as a commitment to maintaining high safety standards and quality control throughout the production process. In this role, the Production Manager will also be tasked with developing training processes for cross-training manufacturing personnel and leadership. They will proactively develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all departments, ensuring that production staff are well-equipped to meet the demands of the shop. The Production Manager will utilize data and root cause analysis to improve part quality, create corrective actions for non-conformances, and address customer complaints effectively. Additionally, they will participate in new product development teams to support the timely delivery of new products, ensuring that production follows appropriate workflows and methods. Safety is a top priority, and the Production Manager will ensure that all safety rules and regulations are adhered to, investigating any accidents in a timely and thorough manner. They will provide day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates, promoting and recognizing performance through regular meetings and feedback. Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead shop supervisors through active coaching
  • Develop training processes for cross-training of manufacturing personnel and leadership
  • Facilitate communication and develop a shared vision within the team
  • Proactively develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with and between all departments
  • Propose and assist in capacity planning, hiring, and training methods for production staff
  • Use data and root cause analysis to improve part quality and create corrective actions for non-conformances and customer complaints
  • Establish production targets
  • Develop tools, processes, and communication channels to ensure on-time delivery
  • Participate in new product development teams to support the delivery of new products on schedule
  • Develop and ensure production follows appropriate workflow and methods
  • Interface with QA department to ensure the highest degree of final quality and develop new and better-quality methods
  • Ensure all safety rules and regulations are followed; investigate accidents in a timely, accurate, and complete manner
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; actively work to promote and recognize performance
  • Hold weekly meetings with supervisors and key staff
  • Assist subordinates with reviews and disciplinary matters as needed

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a metal fabrication shop
  • Strong knowledge of precision machining
  • 2+ years' experience leading a team
  • Bachelor's or Associates degree preferred but not required
