About the position

The Production Manager at GAF is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing of residential asphalt shingles, ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety practices, and effective housekeeping. This role involves managing daily production operations, applying continuous improvement principles, and fostering a collaborative environment among production teams to maximize efficiency and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily production operations to maximize production efficiency including volume, run rates, raw material utilization, yield loss, downtime, and slowdown.
  • Ensure that production standards and expectations are communicated, understood, and consistently met.
  • Provide formal objectives and measurements for plant personnel and participate in machine troubleshooting and efficiency studies.
  • Ensure production crews are well trained and committed to meeting production, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Work with logistics and purchasing to ensure appropriate inventory mix is available while balancing production efficiency and raw material demands.
  • Develop, implement, and track compliance to production department expense budgets.
  • Guide production supervision to balance production needs, machine reliability, and overall repair costs.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the production department, maintaining good employee relations and preventing union organizing attempts.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical preferred.
  • Minimum four years of experience in manufacturing management with project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in process and quality improvements, implementing strategy for production operations, and performance management.
  • Experience in a high volume manufacturing operation, preferably continuous web process.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (such as Outlook and Excel) or G-Suite is a plus.
  • Familiarity with standard manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures is helpful.
