About the position

The Production Manager employed at Veritas Steel's Palatka location is responsible for safely and efficiently overseeing multiple areas and departments across shifts. This role is focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement while being strategically minded. The Production Manager will work through complex processes and is heavily focused on throughput and efficiency. They are expected to be a good motivator and team leader who possesses a positive attitude while achieving goals of the highest standards through effective leadership. The Production Manager must be able to effectively manage a wide range of duties and responsibilities while supervising those reporting to them. In this position, the Production Manager will manage assigned areas and departments within the facility, ensuring that all work performed in the assigned area meets the required standards. They will be responsible for maintaining housekeeping, implementing 5S practices, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Production Manager will work closely with the Production Scheduler to understand production requirements and provide active feedback on any gaps as they are identified. They will ensure that assigned teams are operating within the designed fabrication plans and assist in improving the efficiency of the work. Effective planning of work and management of labor to ensure efficient execution is crucial. The Production Manager will execute schedules with a focus on safety, quality, timeliness, impact, and cost. They will be responsible for coaching and overseeing the overall performance of assigned area leads and team members. This includes actively participating in recruiting, selecting, training, and coaching new department employees. The Production Manager will give direction, effectively supervise, counsel on performance, and provide training when appropriate. When necessary, they will initiate disciplinary action and work with Human Resources to ensure understanding of company policies and communicate these policies to production teams. Additionally, they will maintain required documentation on all projects for assigned areas and communicate with employees regularly to seek their input on problem-solving. The Production Manager will also actively participate in the safety program, observing and correcting unsafe behaviors, and ensuring that EHS policies and guidelines are met within the department. They will coach, train, communicate, and monitor employees' performance on safety programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned areas/departments within the facility, including all work performed in assigned area
  • Responsible for maintaining housekeeping, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field, preferred
  • Thorough understanding of lean and six sigma principles and applications
  • Knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management
  • Familiarity with business and financial principles
  • Excellent communication skills and leadership ability
