About the position

As the Production Manager at our client's Livingston machinery manufacturing facility, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the production processes to ensure high productivity and timely deliveries. This position is essential for managing a growing equipment manufacturer that serves both national and international markets. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of machine shop practices and manufacturing processes, coupled with strong leadership and communication skills. You will be responsible for planning production schedules that align with shipping dates and volume requirements, ensuring that all production phases are supervised effectively. In this role, you will review engineering drawings to determine the most efficient manufacturing methods and collaborate closely with the engineering department to ensure that all designs are manufacturable. You will also be tasked with planning inventory levels and establishing re-order points to maintain optimal stock levels. Your decision-making will extend to determining the best methods for manufacturing parts, including routing and make/buy decisions. Proficiency in manufacturing software will be crucial for scheduling, costing, and loading operations. Additionally, you will work directly with the company president to ensure that manufacturing aligns with the overall company plans and requirements. This includes finding and qualifying vendors, overseeing their quality, and estimating production costs. You will also collaborate with the Shop Foreman, Purchasing, and other production personnel, as well as the sales department, to meet their needs and ensure that production capabilities align with sales forecasts.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all Production phases to assure high productivity and on time deliveries
  • Plan Production Schedule to meet shipping dates and volume needs
  • Review Drawings and determine best manufacturing method
  • Interface with engineering dept. to assure drawings are manufacturable
  • Plan Inventory levels and re-order points
  • Determine best methods to manufacture parts and routing
  • Decide on Make/Buy decisions
  • Use manufacturing software for scheduling, costing and loading
  • Work closely with company president to assure manufacturing is in accordance with company plans and requirements
  • Find and qualify vendors and oversee their quality
  • Estimating
  • Work with Shop Foreman and Purchasing and other Production Personnel
  • Work with sales department to meet their sales needs

Requirements

  • 5+ to 10 years of experience in manufacturing or production management
  • Related college degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong knowledge of machine shop practices and manufacturing processes
  • Excellent scheduling and follow-up capabilities
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Comfort with manufacturing computer software
