About the position

The position involves developing and implementing effective production and department planning, policies, and procedures. The successful candidate will coordinate with Plant Management to establish goals and objectives, participate in the development and implementation of department procedures, and ensure alignment with company-wide strategic objectives. The role requires an expert knowledge of all positions on the production floor and a commitment to ensuring that all company policies and procedures are adhered to. In addition, the individual will assume responsibility for the efficient, timely, and accurate completion of production functions. This includes identifying and resolving problems quickly and effectively, completing related reports and records, and ensuring that production functions meet established production, safety, and quality standards. The candidate will track operational output metrics such as efficiency, yield loss, product quality, inventory accuracy, and transactional accuracy, while anticipating and correcting trends that could compromise financial targets. Flexibility in production plans on a shift-by-shift basis is essential to prevent service issues and operational inefficiencies. The role also involves effectively supervising assigned personnel to ensure optimal performance. This includes training and advising employees on daily needs and production methods, managing personnel schedules, and assessing staffing needs. The candidate will provide leadership through goal setting, delegation, and communication, and assist with personnel decisions such as performance appraisals, hiring, terminations, wage decisions, and promotions. A culture of respect for all employees is paramount, and the candidate will motivate, correct, and challenge personnel positively. Maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relations with company personnel and management is crucial. The candidate will communicate cross-functionally to solve operational issues, drive business changes while minimizing impact on personnel, and maintain an open dialogue with the assigned team and Plant Manager. Compliance with safety policies and procedures, product quality, sanitation standards, and company policies is also a key responsibility. The candidate may be assigned additional duties as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field or 3 - 5 years of operational management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Safety, SQF, GMP, and HACCP training/certifications.
  • Previous experience understanding of budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of financial and accounting practices.
  • Ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends.
  • Experience using continuous improvement tools to drive improvement.
  • Experience enforcing safety rules and policies.
  • Ability to lead a team-based approach to decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
