About the position

The Production-Operations Manager plays a crucial role in leading manufacturing operations within a prominent global manufacturer in the paint supply industry. This position is responsible for ensuring that all products produced and distributed meet the highest safety and quality standards. The manager will develop and maintain all manufacturing processes related to production, safety, facilities, materials, and logistics. The role requires a strong focus on material planning, organizational flow, and quality assurance, while fostering a positive working environment through effective team leadership and collaboration. In this position, the Production-Operations Manager will lead a team of 30-40 direct and indirect reports, guiding them to achieve set goals related to product quality, on-time delivery, inventory management, profitability, and productivity. The manager will monitor ongoing factory operations, resolve issues, and escalate matters as necessary. A significant part of the role involves managing inventory levels for supplies and equipment to meet production schedules, as well as leading the materials team to effectively manage inventory and reduce costs while ensuring continuity of materials. The manager will also execute annual operating plans (AOP) to achieve profit targets and initiate productivity improvements across all product lines. They will work closely with the continuous improvement team to drive LEAN manufacturing processes and support Lean Kaizen events. Active involvement on the production floor is essential, with a minimum of four hours spent interacting with leaders and operational employees daily. The manager will collaborate with the engineering team to address production and equipment issues, facilitate monthly shift meetings, and utilize JDE and ERP systems to enhance decision-making processes. Additionally, the role includes managing preventive maintenance programs for equipment and tooling, creating work schedules, and overseeing training materials and skill matrices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead manufacturing operations to achieve set goals related to product quality, on-time delivery, inventory management, profitability, and productivity.
  • Monitor ongoing factory operations in all areas, resolving issues and escalating as needed.
  • Lead, develop, and coach a team of 30-40 direct and indirect reports.
  • Monitor inventory levels for supplies and equipment needed to meet production schedules.
  • Lead materials team to effectively manage inventory and to reduce costs while ensuring continuity of materials.
  • Monitor inventory records for accuracy, re-work, and other product categories.
  • Execute annual operating plans (AOP), achieving profit targets.
  • Initiate and execute productivity improvements for all product lines.
  • Work with continuous improvement team to drive LEAN manufacturing processes.
  • Support Lean Kaizen events as a leader/participant.
  • Support and develop Safety programs, plant wide.
  • Active involvement on the production floor throughout the day - minimum of 4 hours!
  • Interact with leaders and operational employees.
  • Work with engineering team for production and equipment issues, supporting root cause and investigations/solutions implementations.
  • Facilitate monthly shift meetings with leads for all production shifts.
  • Utilize JDE and ERP system to follow on improvements and facilitate better decision making.
  • Lead efforts to restructure and eliminate ergonomically adverse manufacturing procedures.
  • Manage preventive maintenance program for equipment and tooling in support of process and product excellence.
  • Create work schedules and coordinate vacation time requests/coverage based on production schedules.
  • Review weekly schedule required to meet production requirements.
  • Communicate work and company information to employees on a regular basis, seeking employees' opinions and ideas.
  • Review, update, and oversee skill matrix and related training materials and sign-off on training checklist.
  • All other duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field - Production, Operations, Business Management, and/or Engineering preferred.
  • 5 years' experience in a similar role with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • 7 years' experience working within a Manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to assembly and fabrication.
  • 3 years of experience managing production, materials, and planning.
  • Proven success in building processes and improvements.
  • Ability to lead and build a team.
  • Knowledge and application of OSHA, Safety, and Lean methods.
  • Proficiency with budgeting and KPI's monitoring and budgeting.
  • Analytical skill set with the ability to report data and problem solve.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • ISO experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Certification (green belt).
  • JDE experience.
  • ADP; Kronos; Dimensions; Power-Bi; Excel; WMS Systems.
  • Previous experience in automation and assembly lines is a huge plus!
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English.
