About the position

As a Production Operator at Airgas, you will play a crucial role in the filling of high-pressure cylinders, which include industrial, medical, and mixed gases. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and grow within the company. You will be trained on the compression temperature and pressure methods necessary for filling these cylinders, ensuring that you are well-equipped to handle the responsibilities of the role. As you gain proficiency in filling various gases, you will have the opportunity to test your skills, with each successful test resulting in a pay increase of 50 cents per hour. This means that within a short period, you could potentially increase your hourly wage by up to $2.50, contingent upon a successful 90-day review. The role is not just about filling cylinders; it encompasses a variety of responsibilities that ensure safety and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will operate and maintain equipment used for pumping or repackaging gases, perform pre-fill and post-fill inspections, and ensure that cylinders are adequately maintained. If any cylinders require maintenance or repair, you will be responsible for removing them from service until the necessary corrections are made. Regular inspections of the pumping apparatus and associated pressure gauges will also be part of your duties. In addition to filling cylinders, you will assist with loading and unloading trucks and trailers, inventory management, and general housekeeping tasks. Customer service is also a key component of this role, as you may be required to assist customers when necessary. Responsibilities

  • Fill high pressure cylinders (Industrial, Medical and Mixes) following compression temperature/pressure method.
  • Operate and safely maintain equipment for pumping or repackaging gases into cylinders.
  • Perform all required pre-fill and post-fill inspections and tests before cylinders are released.
  • Ensure cylinders are adequately maintained; remove cylinders requiring maintenance or repair from service until corrected.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain pumping apparatus and associated pressure gauges and monitoring devices.
  • Fill cylinders or containers to proper pressure or weight, whichever is appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate cylinder filling records and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks and/or trailers when required.
  • Assist with inventory, general housekeeping, and help customers when necessary.

Requirements

  • No prior experience needed; training will be provided.
  • Ability to work standing for up to 8 hours.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motion required.
  • Ability to routinely lift 25 - 75 lbs., and occasionally lift 76 to greater than 125 lbs. with the aid of material handling equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Willingness to work overtime occasionally, as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment is a plus.
  • Basic mechanical skills or knowledge of gas handling is beneficial.
