About the position

As a Production Process Engineer at U-Haul, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our manufacturing processes are efficient and meet the high standards of quality that U-Haul is known for. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and have a passion for creating and optimizing processes. You will collaborate closely with various production departments within the manufacturing plant to oversee the production of goods, ensuring that they are made skillfully and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include developing and updating bills of materials, interpreting drawings, identifying tooling requirements, and preparing work instructions. You will also be responsible for designing any necessary tools, jigs, and fixtures to maintain production results, as well as ensuring the maximum utilization of equipment and facilities. This includes managing plant layout and the placement of machinery and conveyor systems to optimize operational efficiency. In addition to these technical responsibilities, you will maintain current drawings in production print decks and repair print files, screen incoming engineering changes, and notify relevant personnel of any updates. You will work as part of a team across all levels and functional areas of the organization, placing orders for machine shop and tooling as needed, and coordinating with machine programmers to troubleshoot software issues. Training and guiding team members will also be a key part of your role, as will enforcing safety policies and procedures in compliance with applicable guidelines. You will consistently seek improvements in both process and product efficiency, and perform other duties as assigned by management to support the business plan. Responsibilities

  • Develop and update bill of materials for process, production, and planning teams.
  • Assist in drawing interpretation, tooling requirement identification, and preparation of work instructions.
  • Determine and design necessary tools, jigs, fixtures, and special equipment for production.
  • Ensure maximum utilization of equipment and facilities, managing plant layout for efficiency.
  • Maintain current drawings in production print decks and repair print files, ordering new prints as necessary.
  • Screen incoming engineering changes and notify appropriate personnel of changes.
  • Collaborate with all levels and functional areas of the organization.
  • Place machine shop and tooling orders as needed.
  • Coordinate with machine programmers to update and troubleshoot software.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members.
  • Follow and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with guidelines.
  • Review processes for efficiency and troubleshoot production issues as they arise.
  • Consistently seek improvement in process and product efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as deemed appropriate by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Metal fabrication component knowledge preferred but not required.
  • Experience in 3D CAD modeling and drawing (Inventor/SolidWorks), AutoCAD software, and sheet metal is preferred.
  • Demonstrated high degree of mechanical aptitude.
