About the position

The Production Process Specialist in the Finish Department at Kimball International plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of daily shop floor activities. This position is integral to the execution of the Business Plan, focusing on the timely availability of the right parts in the right place. The specialist acts as a vital communication link between the Area Manager or Team Leader and team members, facilitating the sharing of daily results, improvement needs, and innovative ideas. This role is not only about coordination but also about driving corrective actions to enhance quality, productivity, and reliability within the production process. In this position, the specialist is responsible for coordinating various shop floor activities and meticulously documenting necessary information to ensure operational efficiency. They are tasked with expediting workflow and prioritizing work distribution, which involves sequencing released products effectively. Communication is key, as the specialist must liaise between departments to address material and quality shortages, identify workflow interruptions, and make informed decisions regarding the balance of processes in their assigned area. The Production Process Specialist is expected to proactively communicate business issues and opportunities, fostering a productive and positive working environment. This includes motivating team members to succeed and actively contributing to creating an environment that positions Kimball International as an employer of choice. The specialist will also share best practices, monitor key performance indicators (IPK), and flex activities as required to meet business needs. Daily debriefs may be conducted to assess progress and support the 5S Program, which emphasizes workplace organization and efficiency. Additionally, adherence to the Quality Management System and compliance with safety and environmental guidelines are paramount. The specialist will identify and measure local performance metrics, taking necessary actions to align with the Business Plan. Supporting the Vision & Guiding Principles and Corporate Goals of Kimball International, as well as the Environmental Management System (EMS), is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a feedback link between Area Manager or Team Leader and team members to share daily results and improvement needs and/or ideas.
  • Coordinate shop floor activities and document necessary information.
  • Drive corrective action to improve quality, productivity & reliability.
  • Provide input for resources & planning purposes.
  • Expedite workflow.
  • Prioritize work distribution (sequencing released product).
  • Communicate between departments concerning material and quality shortages.
  • Identify work flow interruptions.
  • Make decisions regarding work balance of processes in assigned area.
  • Proactively communicate business issues and opportunities.
  • Create and sustain a productive and positive working environment by developing people and maximizing flexibility.

  • Monitor IPK's and flexing activities required to meet business needs.
  • Conduct daily debriefs (as applicable).

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills to effectively liaise between management and team members.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a production or process specialist role.
  • Ability to analyze workflow and identify areas for improvement.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and safety guidelines.
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead a team towards achieving production goals.
  • Familiarity with performance measurement metrics and continuous improvement processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with 5S methodology and implementation.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a manufacturing setting.
