About the position

The Production Program Manager at Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to accelerate the production of superconducting magnets and fusion power plant assemblies. This role combines project management with strategic oversight, focusing on reducing technical risks, ensuring timely delivery of hardware, and innovating manufacturing processes for commercial power plant production.

Responsibilities

• Develop near- and long-term strategies for accelerating production for one of CFS' main production lines.
• Oversee project plans and budgets, including capital equipment and cost management strategies.
• Project manage capital equipment projects and continuous improvement initiatives with a diverse team.
• Organize project milestones and schedules to meet strategic targets for SPARC and ARC production.
• Communicate project status, risks, and resource requirements to the team and leadership.
• Work cross-functionally with design, physics, and R&D teams to transition technology into production-ready processes.
• Develop and execute strategic initiatives to support the Production team, including technician training and Lean initiatives.
• Influence make vs. buy decisions and collaborate with external vendors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering field is required.
• 10+ years' experience managing technical projects in new manufacturing production launch or facility startups.
• Experience transitioning products from R&D into production, developing manufacturing techniques.
• Project management experience with internal customers and external vendors.
• Experience using project/product management tools such as MS Project, JIRA, Confluence.
• Experience with resource estimation, projection, and capacity planning.
• Experience with production tools such as PFMEA, DMAIC, and data analysis methods.
• Demonstrated understanding of project management processes and strategies.
• Experience mentoring and developing talent in engineering disciplines.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Strong sense of personal accountability and self-motivation.
• Experience in a collaborative environment promoting teamwork.
• Managerial experience applying analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and highly organized.
• Flexible thinking and ability to pivot when faced with challenges.
• Proficiency in presentation software to explain complex information.

Nice-to-haves

• 5+ years' experience in leadership roles for new manufacturing production line launches.
• Experience with electromagnets, large/heavy assembly processes, and machining or welding.
• Experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
• Experience developing ERP/MES/testing software in manufacturing start-up environments.
