About the position

The Production Research Data Engineer Intern at Bayer is a pivotal role focused on the global expansion of genomic prediction models and their standardization across various crops and world regions. This position involves solving complex connections between operations and genomic information specifically in Corn and Canola, utilizing a user-friendly interactive user interface (UI). The intern will tackle the challenges of integrating multiple data layers into a time-sensitive prediction model that can be adjusted according to the specific world region, pipeline, and product requirements. Collaboration is key in this role, as the intern will work on projects with partner teams across different world regions, including North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. This collaboration aims to guide the development and implementation of Precision Breeding initiatives. Additionally, the intern will support Bayer's Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct, and Human Rights policies and culture, ensuring that all operations align with the company's ethical standards and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Global expansion of genomic prediction models and standardization across crops and world regions.
  • Solve connections between operations and genomic information in Corn and Canola in a user-friendly interactive UI.
  • Address challenges of integrating multiple data layers into a time-sensitive prediction model that is tunable to the world region, pipeline, and product.
  • Collaborate on projects with partner teams and across world regions (NA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC) to guide development and implementation of Precision Breeding.
  • Support Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct, and Human Rights policies and culture.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD Candidate in Software Engineering, Data Science, Genomics, or other relevant scientific field; Undergraduate candidates will be considered based on project experience.
  • Experience in analyzing large biological datasets and coding experience in C, Fortran, R, Python, SQL, or similar software and languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and leverage complex biological datasets and translate them into testable hypotheses.
  • Experience with computational and analytical tools in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and influencing activities of cross-functional teams without direct reporting relationships.
  • Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities; facilitates solutions.
  • Results-oriented with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously.
