The Production Shift Manager is responsible for managing and directing the supervision of the processing production shift operations within the plant. This role is crucial in ensuring that production meets established objectives at a designated quality level while maintaining the lowest possible costs and a safe work environment. The manager will oversee the coordination of various departments including production, maintenance, sanitation, quality control, and shipping and receiving. This position requires a proactive approach to monitoring the performance of each department to ensure that production efficiency, yield, and quality goals are met consistently. In this role, the Production Shift Manager will set clear objectives and review the shift's performance against these goals. They will encourage subordinates to identify and implement cost-reduction strategies while ensuring that sanitation practices meet USDA standards. The manager will also coordinate production and sanitation maintenance to meet daily operational needs and will analyze equipment performance daily, collaborating with the maintenance superintendent to address any issues. A key aspect of this position is providing a clear sense of direction for supervisors, fostering teamwork, and establishing challenging goals and standards for each supervisor. The manager will ensure effective utilization of human resources by training subordinates, motivating consistent performance, appraising performance, recommending salary actions, and developing employees for potential promotion. Additionally, the Production Shift Manager will monitor operations to comply with company policies, quality specifications, and USDA and OSHA standards, conducting plant inspections to eliminate hazardous conditions and managing all aspects of operations to assure a safe working environment. Immediate action will be taken to eliminate any improper practices or hazardous conditions that may arise.
