About the position

Mars Petcare is seeking a dedicated and experienced Shift Manager to oversee operations at our manufacturing plant in Kansas City, Missouri. This position is crucial for ensuring that production runs smoothly during the night shift, which operates from 6 PM to 6:30 AM. The Shift Manager will be responsible for supervising multiple production areas, coordinating short-term activities, and ensuring that all operations adhere to established guidelines and standards. The primary goal is to produce high-quality products at the lowest cost while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. In this role, the Shift Manager will facilitate team dynamics and conduct necessary training for associates, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This includes driving down faults and enhancing operational efficiency. The Shift Manager will act as a change agent, recommending and implementing changes in methods, equipment, and systems to meet production objectives. Additionally, the manager will handle associate relations, guiding the hiring, training, and development of operations associates while ensuring engagement and consistency across sites. The position requires setting performance standards and goals, measuring outcomes, and taking corrective actions as necessary. The Shift Manager will also troubleshoot equipment issues, utilizing technical resources effectively to maintain desired performance levels. Open communication is essential, and the manager will work closely with the Operations Manager to implement strategies for operational improvement and associate development. Keeping abreast of managerial and technical competencies is vital for personal and team growth, as is the commitment to lean manufacturing principles and total productive maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise multiple production areas on the night shift to ensure efficient operations.
  • Coordinate short-term activities within established guidelines to produce high-quality products.
  • Facilitate team training and development to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Implement and enforce established policies and strategies for production.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce faults and enhance productivity.
  • Manage associate relations and guide hiring, training, and development of operations associates.
  • Establish performance standards and goals for production lines and measure outcomes.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate preventive maintenance efforts.
  • Ensure open communication among team members and promote opportunities for growth.
  • Advise on technological advancements and participate in operational strategy implementation.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in Engineering, basic sciences, or business-related disciplines preferred.
  • Five years of experience in a production environment.
  • Three years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Understanding of major functions within the plant and ability to work with all levels and functions.
  • Successful completion of a drug and background screen.
  • Candidate must be mobile ready anytime.
