About the position

The Production Shift Supervisor at Weyerhaeuser's Buckhannon Engineered Wood Products facility is a full-time, exempt role responsible for overseeing the safety, production, and quality goals of a production team. This front-line supervisory position involves planning, leading, and directing daily activities while ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational excellence. The supervisor is expected to foster a positive and inclusive work environment, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and develop team members through coaching and training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership and oversight of hourly production associates.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient execution of work.
  • Role model safe work practices and facilitate team meetings & trainings with assigned team.
  • Ensure proper job and safety rules are understood and followed.
  • Identify safety, environmental, quality & production issues and conduct incident investigations when necessary.
  • Meet production standards and goals.
  • Develop and train associates, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Support training and development plans to improve skills, knowledge, and team performance.
  • Support the improvement of key performance indicators and continuous improvement of operational functions.
  • Lead the team by proactively resolving employee issues and ensuring adherence to site policies and procedures.
  • Staff, recruit, and retain talent.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years management, supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach employees to higher performance levels.
  • Willingness to participate in safety initiatives and exhibit safe work practices.
  • Demonstrated experience as a results-focused problem solver with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent team building, problem solving, decision-making, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Track record of collaborative and inclusive leadership skills with a focus on safety, quality, productivity, and people development.
  • Ability to provide innovative solutions to improve processes and eliminate unscheduled downtime.
  • Computer proficiency with experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and at heights when conditions warrant.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as conditions require.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or related field.
  • Engineered Lumber experience or other wood products manufacturing experience.
  • Leadership/Management experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes.
