About the position

The part-time Production Stage Manager & Front of House Assistant for Lilly Theater plays a crucial role in facilitating and supporting the theater production process at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. This position involves managing front of house operations during performances, organizing production teams, and assisting with set construction and teardown. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining communication among team members and supporting various operational aspects of the theater and museum events.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a production stage manager for theater productions, attending rehearsals and performances.
  • Prepare for rehearsals by copy editing and distributing scripts for current and future productions.
  • Coordinate with department colleagues and designers to create and manage schedules for rehearsals and performances.
  • Create cast and character breakdowns, as well as properties lists for the production team.
  • Distribute rehearsal notes to production teams and department management.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols by conducting safety walk-throughs and placing safety taping.
  • Communicate requests from internal and contracted show directors to staff in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a production and event technician, operating lighting and sound equipment.
  • Assist the Theater Manager with scheduling and running auditions, including working with volunteer services staff.
  • Support interpreter and actor rehearsals for presentations outside of the Lilly Theater as directed.
  • Assist with museum events in Lilly Theater, including setup, teardown, attendance reporting, and technical needs.
  • Perform other duties related to show production and Lilly Theater operations, such as ordering scripts and facilitating photo shoots.
  • Assist with production builds and strikes, as well as administrative or technical aspects of theater operations.
  • Run front-of-house operations to ensure shows start on time and fulfill contractual requirements.
  • Create front-of-house schedules to ensure proper staffing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in theater or stage management or equivalent production stage management experience.
  • 2 to 3 years of technical theater experience.
  • Strong background in a creative, fast-paced operational environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Proven problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Flexible schedule availability, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
