The Production Support role focuses on the analysis, design, development, testing, and debugging of complex software systems, particularly in a mainframe environment. This position requires a deep understanding of operating system architecture and software design, as well as the ability to select appropriate computer systems, languages, and equipment. The individual will be responsible for designing, developing, coding, testing, and documenting critical application programs for computer systems. Collaboration with stakeholders is essential to define system scope and objectives, establish baselines, and ensure compliance with project standards and processes. The role involves breaking down software requirements to create highly complex systems that meet the needs of the organization. The essential functions of this position are divided into four main areas, each accounting for 25% of the role. The first area involves performing technical detail design, coding, and testing of applications, serving as a subject matter expert for both customer and internal discussions. The second area focuses on software analysis, including requirements and use case development, as well as implementing and documenting source code to design specifications. The third area emphasizes the development of software solutions for enterprise environments, analyzing and implementing functional and non-functional requirements, and performing operations and maintenance of existing systems. The final area involves providing direct technical support for high-level, high-visibility trouble calls, working with cross-functional teams to develop reliable software, and mentoring junior software engineers. To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, along with at least five years of experience in software development, coding, software architecture/design, and user requirements definition. In lieu of a degree, an additional four years of relevant work experience is required. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of programming languages, cloud technologies, database technologies, and software development life cycle (SDLC). Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as well as the ability to work under pressure and adapt to change. The role also requires a thorough understanding of various tools and technologies, including CA7, CICS, DB2, and UNIX commands, among others.
