About the position

The Production Technician Trainee at Bayer in Muscatine, Iowa, is responsible for the safe and efficient production of quality formulated products. This role involves operating chemical processing equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and maintaining product quality through various operational tasks. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe operation of chemical processing equipment.
  • Read and understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Stage raw and finished materials.
  • Take required samples during the production process.
  • Decontaminate equipment and piping for maintenance or disposal.
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment Matrix.
  • Maintain inventories of disposable, production, and safety-related materials.
  • Recognize material compatibilities.
  • Conduct charging and filling operations.
  • Maintain plant Hazard Communication labeling program.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties throughout the plant area.
  • Assist in product changeover activities.
  • Responsible for plant/unit operations and safety equipment.
  • Recognize and operate basic process elements.
  • Handle waste and other contaminated trash per SOP.
  • Responsible for labeling, inspection, and recordkeeping requirements to accumulate waste in satellite accumulation areas, containers, and tanks.
  • Operate forklifts and shuttle wagons during rail movement operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with proficiency in reading comprehension, writing, and math.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use information technology systems and applications.
  • Personal focus on safety, teamwork, and adaptability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to use or learn to use control/display screens, process pumps, and various hand tools.
  • Ability to use full-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Willingness to climb and perform elevated work using portable ladders and fall protection equipment.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts including overtime hours and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Manufacturing operation experience, military experience, or similar experience.
  • Forklift operation experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and complete mechanical repairs or preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Experience operating Computer Control Systems (PLC & Delta V).
  • Leadership experience of a team or small group.
