About the position

As a Utility 1 worker on the 2nd shift at our Indianapolis manufacturing plant, you will play a crucial role in the bakery production process. This position requires you to engage in various manufacturing activities, working in a fast-paced environment where teamwork and communication are essential. You will be responsible for multiple assignments within the utility category, including roles such as Pan Setter, Feeder, Packer/Carton, Packer/Cases, Shipping Stacker, Handler, Sanitor, Receiver, and Palletizer. Your ability to follow both written and verbal instructions is vital, as you will need to safely and accurately complete your assigned duties while adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards. In this role, you will work as a helper on one production line, performing various manual labor tasks that involve grasping, lifting, moving, placing, and stacking items related to the production processes. You will be expected to feed, catch, and monitor the production line continuously, visually inspecting products for quality and quantity. Supporting quality control programs is essential to ensure that production procedures align with food safety and quality standards. You will also be responsible for reporting any equipment issues to your supervisor or manager promptly and understanding all safety procedures applicable to daily operations. Maintaining a safe and clean environment is a priority, and you will be expected to adhere to safety policies and GMP procedures. This may include assisting with the cleaning and sanitation of equipment and the production environment before and after production runs. Excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, and coworkers are essential traits for success in this position. You may also be required to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a helper on one production line in various roles (i.e., Helper, Indexer, Feeder, Packer, Catcher, etc.)
  • Perform various assigned manual labor tasks to grasp, lift, move, place, and stack items relating to the production processes assigned.
  • Feed, catch, and monitor continuously on one production line.
  • Visually inspect product for quality and quantity.
  • Support quality control programs to ensure production procedures follow best practices of food safety and quality standards.
  • Report all equipment issues to the supervisor or manager as soon as possible.
  • Understand and comply with all safety procedures that apply to daily operations.
  • Work safely; follow proper lock out/tag out procedure where applicable.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment by adhering to safety policy and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) procedures.
  • Assist with cleaning and sanitation of equipment and environment pre- and post-production.
  • Maintain excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, coworkers, etc.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation.

Requirements

  • Ability to work night shift.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous safety training preferred.
  • Prior food industry experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with bakery equipment preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
