About the position

The Professional Administrative Analyst 1 (Budget) plays a crucial role in providing financial analysis and operational planning support to executives and managers within the City of Detroit's Water Department. This position focuses on strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling, enabling informed decision-making. The analyst will prepare various financial reports, monitor budget compliance, and analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities, all while working independently and reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities

• Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports comparing actual, historical, budget, and forecast data.
• Monitor the implementation of DWSD's budget to ensure compliance and develop financial and operational metrics.
• Prepare reports and presentations with recommendations regarding financial and operational risks and opportunities.
• Use enterprise resource planning systems and statistical software to analyze financial and operational data.
• Conduct cost studies and alternative analysis to assess efficiencies and priorities.
• Utilize benchmarking and comparison studies to assist in decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with specialization in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in economics, finance, accounting, or related fields.
• Knowledge of financial theory and principles of business management operations.
• Familiarity with GAAP accounting and standardized bookkeeping processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Familiarity with ERP systems.
