About the position

The Professional Administrative Analyst 2 (Finance/Budget) position is a critical role within the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD), responsible for performing complex and technical administrative work across various functions of the department. This position requires an experienced professional who can handle a range of tasks that include technical research, system management, and problem resolution. The analyst will be expected to initiate actions for the settlement of issues that fall outside of routine procedures, ensuring that all operations align with departmental policies and best practices. In this role, the analyst will coordinate and manage tests of systems, changes, and upgrades, implementing approved systems or methods while adhering to security and safety policies. The position also involves providing on-the-job training to staff and may require working various shifts, including weekends, to meet the operational needs of the department. The analyst will be called upon to direct specific project activities and collaborate with other business units, providing functional advice and support to business system users. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of business technology, data management systems, and departmental reporting tools. They will be skilled in preparing reports, analyzing data, and making recommendations for improvements in business processes. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is essential, as the analyst will frequently interact with team members and other units within the department. Additionally, the role requires the ability to conduct research, compile data, and prepare comprehensive statistical and narrative reports to support departmental objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical tasks related to administrative functions.
  • Initiate actions for the settlement of problems falling outside of routine procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience related to the field and/or job assignment.
  • Knowledge of business technology, data management systems, and departmental reporting tools.
  • Basic understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Ability to prepare formal and informal statements and exhibits.
  • Skill in generating reports and independently analyzing data for recommendations.
