About the position

The Professional Controls Engineer position at Dematic Corp focuses on Customer Service Modernization and Upgrades (CSMU) within the electrical controls engineering domain. The role involves significant travel to customer locations, leading the design and implementation of complex systems that integrate hardware and software, and mentoring less experienced engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in controls engineering, particularly with PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs, and will be responsible for project management, risk analysis, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of semi-complex/complex systems that integrate hardware and software.
  • Complete schematics and control panel designs.
  • Perform standard professional work and support material specification.
  • Conduct project budgeting, scheduling, and tracking.
  • Participate in productivity improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal divisions and external vendors to execute projects.
  • Solve complex problems related to hardware and software.
  • Lead projects through the project lifecycle and delegate tasks accordingly.
  • Perform site audits to gather information and confirm project scope.
  • Review and report feedback on site readiness audits.
  • Conduct on-site commissioning activities independently or as part of a team.
  • Own the Commissioning Plan and Schedule.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with less experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in electrical engineering or advanced degree.
  • 5+ years of successful experience in related field.
  • Proficient in Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLCs; Siemens PLC proficiency is a plus.
  • Experience with scanning devices and placement photo eyes.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledgeable on AC drives, both open and closed loop.
  • Experience with field device networks, especially Ethernet IP.
  • Basic understanding of UL 508/508A standards for cabinet design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Profibus networks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business practices and issues.
