About the position

The Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) position at the New York State Thruway Authority involves overseeing and managing various construction projects related to highways, bridges, and architectural works. The role requires a thorough understanding of engineering principles and the ability to supervise project engineers and consultants, ensuring compliance with contract specifications and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, supervise, and administer the construction of highway, bridge, and architectural projects.
  • Establish and maintain a thorough understanding of Authority policies and NYSDOT standard specifications.
  • Supervise and guide consultant and in-house Project Engineers.
  • Monitor progress of construction, review CPM schedules and contract payments.
  • Conduct regular field inspections to ensure work compliance with contract requirements.
  • Coordinate project submittal reviews and recommend approval of shop drawings and mix designs.
  • Evaluate contractor requests for information and manage consultant inspection agreements.
  • Review order-on-contracts, cost proposals, and recommend acceptance or modification of work.
  • Chair or participate in all project meetings including progress and close-out meetings.
  • Review work zone traffic control plans and manage conflicts.
  • Perform constructability reviews of projects in design.
  • Provide guidance with respect to contract changes.
  • Participate in Division operations such as emergency response and snow and ice operations support.

Requirements

  • A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration.
  • A qualifying bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related fields, or one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience with transportation projects.
