About the position

The Professional Engineer 1 (Electrical) will work in the Resilience Section of the Office of Resilience, Utility Security, Nuclear Affairs and Emergency Preparedness (OREP). This role involves performing complex engineering analysis related to electric transmission and distribution systems, ensuring compliance with safety and reliability standards, and providing professional engineering services. The position requires expertise in electric facility design and oversight of utility operations and maintenance for large-scale projects.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze rate proceedings and prepare staff position through testimony.
  • Review and analyze utility cost allocation and rate design.
  • Develop and review emergency plans and collect and analyze data relevant to supply planning and emergency plans.
  • Investigate and analyze utility distribution operations and planning systems as well as service quality.
  • Promote utility safety design, construction, and operations.
  • Investigate incidents that may directly affect safety or have broader safety implications.
  • Provide supervisory and mentoring guidance to OREP Assistant Engineers and Engineer Trainees.

Requirements

  • A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration.
  • A qualifying bachelor's degree in relevant engineering fields or one year of full-time engineering experience in electrical systems.
