About the position

The position involves specializing in bridge load rating techniques in accordance with DOT specifications and AASHTO requirements. The role includes performing field inspections of bridges and providing technical expertise on bridge maintenance to both internal and external customers. The candidate will be responsible for load rating analyses, developing design alternatives, and ensuring compliance with various codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform load rating analyses on bridges of various complexities.
  • Develop feasible design alternatives with input from Project Managers, comparing significant parameters for project elements.
  • Serve as the primary contact on load rating tasks, identifying scheduling and staff resource requirements, and assigning tasks.
  • Assess capabilities of other engineers in completing load ratings, coach and train them, and conduct quality control reviews.
  • Analyze and compare principal design features and preferred alternatives, reporting findings and recommendations to Project Managers.
  • Coordinate detailed design drawings, specifications, and estimates in accordance with codes and standards.
  • Consult with Project Manager during the review of plans, specifications, and estimates to ensure compliance with project scope.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited U.S. institution.
  • Professional Engineer License (or able to obtain).
  • 6+ years of experience in load rating.
  • FHWA-NHI-130092 Fundamentals of LRFR & Applications of LRFR for Bridge Superstructures required or ability to obtain in a reasonable timeframe.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or Civil 3D.
  • Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete assignments within established budgets and timelines.
