About the position

The position involves specializing in bridge load rating techniques in accordance with DOT specifications and AASHTO requirements. The role includes performing field inspections of bridges and ancillary structures, providing technical expertise on bridge maintenance to both internal and external customers, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform load rating analyses on bridges of various complexities.
• Develop feasible design alternatives with input from Project Managers, comparing significant parameters for project elements.
• Serve as the primary contact on load rating tasks for projects, identifying scheduling and staff resource requirements.
• Assess capabilities of other engineers in completing load ratings, coach and train engineers, and conduct quality control reviews.
• Analyze and compare principal design features and preferred alternatives, reporting findings and recommendations to Project Managers.
• Coordinate detailed final design drawings, specifications, and estimates in accordance with codes and standards.
• Consult with Project Manager during the review of plans, specifications, and estimates to ensure compliance with project scope.
• Perform federally mandated inspections on state bridges and culverts, assigning condition ratings and determining maintenance needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited U.S. institution.
• Professional Engineer License (or able to obtain).
• 6+ years of experience in load rating.
• FHWA-NHI-130092 Fundamentals of LRFR & Applications of LRFR for Bridge Superstructures required or ability to obtain in a reasonable timeframe.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or Civil 3D.
• Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete assignments within established budgets and timelines.
