About the position

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking a motivated and talented structural engineer to join their team. The role focuses on the repair and rehabilitation of existing structures, as well as the investigation and performance evaluation of both new and existing structures. The engineer will work on a variety of projects involving different structural systems and will be responsible for conducting site investigations, preparing detailed calculations, developing drawings and specifications, and managing project budgets and schedules. This position offers the opportunity to mentor junior staff and engage in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate deteriorated or underperforming structures.
  • Conduct structural evaluations for new and existing structures.
  • Prepare detailed calculations and develop drawings and specifications.
  • Execute construction administration, including bid assistance and site meetings.
  • Manage projects involving condition assessments and investigation of structural failures.
  • Prepare technical reports and options analysis for clients.
  • Design rehabilitation and restoration measures for existing structures.
  • Communicate directly with clients and manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Present technical findings at project meetings and conferences.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural analysis, investigation, and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures.
  • Master of Science or Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering.
  • Structural Engineering (16-hour structural exam) license required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in writing and editing project specifications, technical reports, and proposals.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with computer analysis software such as SAP2000, ETABS, RISA, RAM, and SAFE.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards including IBC, ASCE7, and material design standards produced by AISC, ACI, TMS, and NDS.
  • Proficiency in drawing preparation using Revit or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in software for engineering computations, including Mathcad and Microsoft Excel.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
